Engage in meaningful dialogue with Human Books

Human Library Perth as part of Fringe World is hosting their Human Library Book Cafe and inviting readers aged 15 years and above to join them for their drop-in event.

At their Book Cafés, you’ll enter a safe environment to “borrow” human beings serving as open books, engaging in conversations that challenge stigma and stereotypes.

Listen to personal stories, ask questions openly, and aim to “un-judge” someone. It’s a space where people who might never speak to each other find common ground for thought-provoking conversations.

All the books are volunteers who generously donate their time to share their stories.

The State Library is accessible via wheelchair and a unisex accessible toilet is available on the Ground Floor. Click here to find out more about the accessibility features.

Please note that to ensure everyone can fully enjoy the experience, capacity will be limited to 30 guests at a time. Each session lasts for 30 minutes. You can choose a one-on-one experience or join a group of up to five readers per book.

Participants under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult.
