It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our founder, Dr Margaret Cole.

Margaret’s lifelong commitment to the Western Australian community and the health sector shines through the founding of Kalparrin, now known as Kiind. As a clinical psychologist, Margaret recognised the isolation and often overwhelming demands on parents caring for children with disability. After observing families in the outpatients’ waiting room at Princess Margaret Hospital, she began organising informal morning teas with the aim of providing parents with connection and a forum through which to seek emotional support, advice, recommendations, discuss coping strategies and generally catch up.

Over the past four decades, Kiind has continued to grow, and thousands of families have been impacted by Margaret’s extraordinary support and initiative, a testament to her unwavering dedication. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Margaret Cole was honoured with an Honorary Doctorate of Health Sciences from Edith Cowan University in 2020. In her citation, Dr Cole acknowledged the inspiration drawn from Kiind mothers, expressing gratitude for their generosity, resilience, and courage, which enriched her life profoundly.

As we mourn her loss, we are steadfast in our commitment to carrying on her legacy of compassion, connection, and immeasurable generosity, ensuring that Kiind continues to be a support for Western Australian families raising children with disability.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Margaret’s family and members of the community who are affected by her loss.
