Financial assistance for young carers
The Young Carers Network (YCN) has recently opened applications for the Young Carers Bursary. This is a financial subsidy to support young carers aged 12-25 years while studying.
In 2026, YCN is giving out 1,600 bursaries. Each one is worth $4,000.
The funds can be used towards:
- Buying a laptop for schoolwork
- Getting school uniforms or books
- Paying for transport to get to school or college
- Taking a break from caring
- Joining in with school activities that cost extra
- Paying for some school fees
To apply, young carers must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, living in Australia, and studying at school, TAFE, university, or another place that teaches courses or intends to study in 2026.
Applications close Friday, 7 November 2025, at 8:59pm AWST.
