Big changes are a normal part of growing up but they can also bring uncertainty and stress. For young people with disability and their families, life transitions can be even more complex.
To help support the whole family through these changes, Kiind is excited to be teaming up with Inclusion Solutions and the Youth Disability Advocacy Network (YDAN) to bring you Pathfinders.
This includes:
- Workshops for parents and carers led by Kiind
- Workshops for young people with disability led by YDAN
- One-on-one support sessions with Inclusion Solutions
Participation is flexible depending on your family’s needs. Parents and carers are welcome to attend Kiind’s workshops even if their young person does not participate in the YDAN workshops and vice versa.
Where we can help
Lived experience is an important part of Pathfinders. To make sure our workshops are relevant and helpful to the real needs of families, we’re currently working with advisory groups of young people with disability and parents and carers to design the program topics.
As a guide, the program will focus on life transitions that can affect a young person’s daily life, relationships, education, work or independence. These changes may include:
- Moving to secondary school
- Preparing to leave school
- Exploring further education or training
- Looking for employment
- Becoming more independent
- Building new relationships and support networks
While these changes can be exciting, they can also feel overwhelming for young people and the family supporting them. Having access to information, practical strategies and connections with others who understand the journey can make a real difference. That’s why we’re looking forward to sharing the full program with you soon!
What’s next?
Expressions of interest will open soon, with workshops scheduled to begin early next year. Workshops will be available both online and in person across Perth, helping more families access support in a way that works for them.
