Have your say on support needs assessments

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is inviting NDIS participants, along with their parents and carers, to help test a new way of planning ahead of its rollout in April 2027.

From April 2027, the NDIA will introduce support needs assessments as part of their new way of planning. These assessments are designed to create fairer and more equitable budgets in NDIS plans.

Following feedback from the disability community and the NDIS Review, the Australian Government is seeking input to improve the planning process.  As part of this, NDIS participants and families are invited to take part in testing the new approach before it is introduced.

The NDIA is testing key elements of the new planning approach, including:

  • The information participants need to prepare for assessments
  • How support needs assessments work for different people
  • How plan budgets are developed
  • The overall participant experience

Testing will take place between July and December 2026, with expressions of interest open until Thursday, 31 December 2026.

Participants will be paid for their time.
