Building strong connections with your child’s medical and care network.

Parents and carers of children aged 0-18 years with disability are invited to join Kiind for our online Parent Training Workshop, Understanding Communication in Healthcare.

We are excited to be joined by Rachel Callander, an acclaimed speaker, author, and healthcare communication consultant. Rachel brings her lived experience as a parent to her work that helps families and healthcare professionals have clearer, more effective conversations and build stronger collaborative partnerships.

When your child has complex medical needs, conversations with healthcare professionals can feel hard. They often involve unfamiliar language, important decisions and there is a lot to take in and process. And speaking up for your child can feel especially difficult when you’re already under pressure and worried about your child’s wellbeing.

In this workshop, we will explore:

  • The different communication styles commonly used in healthcare.
  • A framework called the Health Language Matrix and how it can help you recognise communication that is clear, confusing, helpful, or unhelpful.
  • How you can reframe deficit-based information from healthcare professionals, so it makes more sense.
  • Simple ways to ask questions, so you can feel clearer in important conversations.

There will also be time to ask Rachel questions at the end of the session.

Join us for this popular session and gain practical communication strategies that will help you advocate effectively and achieve the best possible care outcomes for your child.
