That’s why we’ve put together a list of the top wheelchair-friendly beaches in WA, featuring beach matting, wheelchair hire, Changing Places, and other accessibility features.

Perth Metro Accessible Beaches
Hillarys Beach
Hillarys Beach is a popular beach with calm waters and accessible pathways. Beach wheelchairs are available for hire at Hillarys Boat Harbour. There’s also an accessible fishing platform, accessible bathroom, accessible beach matting and more.
Sorrento Beach
Sorrento Beach features accessible parking, toilets, and a beach wheelchair available at Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club. A hoist and Changing Places facility are also available.
Mullaloo Beach
Mullaloo Beach offers accessible parking, toilets, and viewing platform. They also provide beach matting and beach wheelchairs that are available for hire.
Cottesloe Beach
Cottesloe Beach provides ramp access to the sand, accessible parking, bathrooms, and a beach wheelchair available for hire for free from October to March.
Scarborough Beach
Scarbrough Beach offers beach matting, accessible parking, and changing facilities. There are two Changing Places facilities in Scarborough, at the Surf Life Saving Club and the Scarborough Pool. A beach wheelchair is also available for hire.
City Beach
City Beach features accessible pathways, parking, and a beach wheelchair for hire. Beach matting will be in place during November through to March. If your child uses a wheelchair, you can try the matting in their own wheelchair or hire the Sandcruiser beach wheelchair or All Terrain Rollator to access the entire beach.
Leighton Beach
Leighton Beach has beach matting, accessible toilets, and wheelchair hire available from the Orange Box all year round from 7am – 3pm.
Bathers Beach
Bathers Beach is a smaller, sheltered beach in Fremantle with calm waters, accessible walkways and ramps, as well as facilities nearby. Beach wheelchairs are available for hire at the WA Shipwrecks Museum.
North Coogee and Poore Grove Coogee
North Coogee Beach and Poore Grove Coogee offers calm waters, beach matting, accessible pathways, and parking close to the beach. Beach wheelchairs are also available for hire from the Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club. North Coogee Beach is a also a great place to take dogs.
Rockingham Foreshore and Palm Beach
Rockingham Foreshore and Palm Beach are family-friendly beaches with accessible pathways, jetties, parking, wheelchair hire, and calm waters ideal for families. Beach matting is available from October to April each year depending on weather conditions.
Beyond Perth: More Accessible Beaches in WA
Rottnest Island
At Rottnest Island, wheelchair hire is available, allowing access to several beaches. A Changing Places facility is located at the Henderson Avenue ablution block – near the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. There are also accessible toilets throughout the island.
Mandurah Beaches
There are a range of Mandurah beaches that offer, beach matting, accessible pathways, toilets, parking and wheelchair hire. Accessible beaches in Mandurah include Keith Holmes Reserve, Madora Bay Beach and Town Beach.
Koombana Beach (Bunbury)
Koombana Beach offers an accessible boardwalk with shade and seating. It also offers accessible parking, ramps, drink fountains, bathroom, beach matting, picnic tables and showers. A Changing Places facility is also available.
Busselton Jetty and Foreshore
Busselton Jetty and Foreshore features a wheelchair-accessible jetty train and pathways along the foreshore. The Busselton jetty can also provide hearing loops, sign language/Auslan interpreted tours and videos, accessible bathrooms and toilets, and beach wheelchair hire. Guide dogs are allowed on the jetty train and Underwater Observatory.
Middleton Beach and Emu Point (Albany)
Middleton Beach and Emu Point offers beach wheelchairs, beach matting and accessible walkways, parking and toilets.
Geraldton Foreshore Beach
Geraldton Foreshore Beach features wheelchair-friendly pathways and accessible toilets, including a Changing Places facility, and beach matting. Beach wheelchairs are also available.
Sandy Bay & Turquoise Bay (Exmouth)
Turquoise Bay is known for its calm, clear waters, ideal for swimming. Beach wheelchairs are available for hire. Accessible parking and bathrooms are also available.
